Stop Stressing Out, Jesus is In Your Boat
Mark 4:39–40 (ESV) And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”
Why do we fail to trust Jesus?
So many Christians simply freak out when the storms of life come. They see the waves, the waters rising, the boat being troubled and Jesus is there, and they still freak out.
Here's what the disciples had still failed to understand: Jesus told them to get to the other side of the lake. If Jesus said they were getting there, they were going to get there.
Mark 4:35–36 (ESV) On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him.
I like to think I'm better than the disciples because I can see their hardship with hindsight and think, "What's wrong with those guys?" But then the least little battle comes my way and I'm crying out to God in fear and frustration, "Don't you care?"
Jesus is in the boat. Don't worry about it.
I look back on the times in my life when I couldn't sleep because of something troubling me. It usually turned out to be nothing. I look back on those who tried to discredit me. They were silenced and God proved faithful. And the big one for me? Money worries. Oh the number of times I have stressed and given anxious thoughts to money. And yet, I've never run out. I've got so much to be thankful for.
If Jesus told you to get in a boat, and you obeyed and the waters start rising and the waves start crashing - you need to stop freaking out. You're doing what He told you to do. It's going to be okay.
Now, if you're being disobedient and reckless in your decisions... if your treating the Bible as a suggestion guide... if your doing life on your own terms... then you have ever reason to freak out. You aren't doing what Jesus said to do. Stress comes standard.
But if you're obedient to Jesus. If you listen to His voice and obey.
You will make it to the other side.
PRAYER:
Father, I want to trust you more. I want to listen to you more. I want to stop forgetting that YOU are with me and never leave me. I want to be full of the faith that was resident in Steven, Paul, Abraham, and others. I want the gift of faith... In Jesus' Name. Amen.
