Knowing it Better

One of the fundamental tactics of our enemy is to use Gods Word against us.

He even has the audacity to use the Word against the "Word made flesh" (John 1:14). Evidently the enemy of our souls knows full well there aren't many other BETTER ways to really mess with Gods people that to twist His Word in our ears. The devil knows the power of the Word.

Do we?

To Eve, the devil's first words were "Did God really say?"

To Jesus:
and (the devil) said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, ""He will command his angels concerning you," and ""On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone."" (Matthew 4:6 ESV)

How many of us are leaping off the "pinnacle of the temple" in our own lives because we foolishly listen to a twisted word rather than knowing it well enough to sniff out a lie in the making?

How many times we recklessly run our lives into trouble because we simply do not apply our minds to knowing Gods word. A "half truth" is actually a whole lie. And the strongest lies are those that smell like truth.

It was for this reason, before Jesus started his public ministry, He had to pass the test of knowing the Word. To be effective in the purpose of God, one must fully grasp the heart of God as revealed in the scriptures.

Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. (1 Corinthians 10:6, 11 ESV)

That's what this year is about for me in this blog. Instead of mindlessly reading through the Bible for the 29th time or so, it's time to really apply my mind to taking it in, one chapter, thought a day in the New Testament for 1 year. I pray the grace of God to make it through!

No more excuses. Know what God has said before you find yourself plummeting into a disaster simply because you didn't bother to check what you heard by what God has actually said.

PRAYER:
Father, help me to dig into the Word more than ever this year. I don't want to be ignorant of what you have said, and how you have said it. Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I want to know it. Is ask you Holy Spirit, be my partner this year in coming to a far better understanding of the Word.
