How do you love someone you can't love?

We all have people we just cannot love in our own power.

John says:
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

First, love is not FROM you, love is from God.
Feelings of infatuation can be from you, feelings of desire can be from you, but love, sacrificial letting my life come second to you - love, THAT is from God.

Ask Him for it.
Father, help me to love the unlovable in my life.  I have not power in me to love them, only through you could it be possible.

Second, KNOW God.
Take a good look at the cross.  He did that while you were unloveable.  He sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him.  God took the first step.  You didn't choose to love God, God chose to love you.

Third, Love them.
Just like stepping out into the jordan, you need to love by faith.  It doesn't start with FEELING love, it starts by showing love.  When that is done, God's love abides in us and is perfected in us.

Start loving.  No excuses.  See what happens.

PRAYER:
Father, this can be so hard at times.  To selflessly make the first move and love someone else who bothers me. Help me step in faith here.  Every fiber of my being is filled with flesh.  May your Spirit empower me to do what the flesh cannot do.
