This is Why I Believe

When you think of it, Christianity is a crazy thing.  It is not crazy bad, it is crazy in a good way.

We worship a God we have not seen through a selection of books we believe were written by His Holy Spirit through men we do not know.  And yet, 2000 years later, we are still doing this.  In spite of medical and scientific advances we worship and believe, maybe even stronger than before.  In spite of the many many attempts to discredit this book we believe in larger numbers than ever before.

Why?

God has done something inside of us.

And that's what Hebrews tells us:

Hebrews 8:10 (ESV) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

He has not just given us a book.  He has made our hearts to resonate with Him internally.  We desire Him, we want Him, we love Him, we understand who He is and what He is doing.  And it happens without a tangible explanation other than God did this.

You read the Bible, and 2000 years later, it still makes so much sense to us.  While at the same time we feel what is right by God coming off the page and into our hearts.

You see, you can't just make this happen.  Judaism is shrinking, Islam is growing but it is built on fear, violence, oppression and control.  Christianity in its purest sense is about giving up control.  It is about not fearing even death.  It is about loving your enemies.  It is counterintuitive and yet resonates with our spirits deep deep down.

And that's how you know God did it.

And that's why I believe it.

PRAYER:
Father, there are times I struggle with my doubts.  And there are times I am never more sure.  Thank you for the two extremes that keep me stretching and growing.  AMEN.
