Transcendent

We are made to experience more than what we see. It's innate to our humanity that this world is simply not enough. We want experience, inspiration, exhilaration. There is no doubt about that!

So we look for it in the baseball stadium or in the perfectly scored tear jerking movie scene, or in the achievement of fine art or the accomplishment of our own dreams. We want more because we are made for more.

John however is the only human to have experienced "true more" twice in his life. The first was on the mount of transfiguration, the second on the island of Patmos.

At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:2-8 ESV)

What an experience to have! Augustine said it right, "we are made for Him and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Him." Augustine spoke from experience. He was a man who has sought out pleasure in every form only to find true joy and peace in Christ.

I think we forget the Christian experience is supposed to be transcendent. We aresupposed  to experience Christ in worship. This is our highest good. To be in His presence and to feel Hos glory and goodness around us.

Yes we should be people of The Book.
Yes we should be people of good works.
Yes we should witness and proclaim.

But nothing changes us like his presence. John fell down as tho dead. Yet he was more alive than ever. His maker was before him. What else could matter?

PRAYER:
Faher I ask for a new and fresh experience with You. I pray my heart is open to your presence and power. I pray for a touch of your Power on my life once more.
