Only One Man Can Bring God's Presence into the Church

If we regard the Church of Jesus the new Tabernacle of God as Paul describes in Ephesians 2:
Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV) built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Then it stands to reason that Exodus' description of the Tabernacle construction can help us understand just how it all comes together. When Exodus 37 opens it turns its attention to the furniture of the Tabernacle: the Ark, the Table, the Lampstand, the Altar of Incense, Burnt Offering and Bronze Basin. All these are the work of ONE particular craftsman - Bezalel. While Exodus 35 tells us of many craftsman coming together for construction, Exodus 37 narrows the work to one man full of the Spirit of God.

Bezalel prepared the Temple for the habitation of God. He first made the Ark.
Exodus 37:1 (ESV) Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half was its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height.

The Ark was the place where God would physically dwell among His people. It was also the place where the blood from the atonement sacrifice would be sprinkled - on the top - called the "mercy seat." One man made the preparations of the place where this would happen.

Secondly, he fashioned the table for the show bread.
Exodus 37:10 (ESV) He also made the table of acacia wood. Two cubits was its length, a cubit its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height.

This was the place the priests would keep twelve loaves of bread year round. It

Third he made the golden lampstand.
Exodus 37:17 (ESV) He also made the lampstand of pure gold. He made the lampstand of hammered work. Its base, its stem, its cups, its calyxes, and its flowers were of one piece with it.

A tree-like looking stand with lights on top to bring light into what must have been a very dark room after all the curtains had been put in place along the top.

Fourth, he made the altar of incense.
Exodus 37:25 (ESV) He made the altar of incense of acacia wood. Its length was a cubit, and its breadth was a cubit. It was square, and two cubits was its height. Its horns were of one piece with it.

The altar where the priests would continually burn the sweet smelling savor in a place marked by a lot of death and sacrifice and blood.

Finally a small mention is made of the anointing oil:
Exodus 37:29 (ESV) He made the holy anointing oil also, and the pure fragrant incense, blended as by the perfumer.

All these elements were made by one man! Whereas the rest of the tabernacle was fashioned by a team of craftsman, this man who was filled with the Spirit brought these particular elements to life. Why this particular change in persons? Because in God's plan, only ONE Spirit filled man is able to bring God's presence into the Tabernacle.

In the New Testament, that man is Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:18 (ESV) For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

Jesus is the one who exited in the very presence of God, came to Earth, offered Himself as a sacrifice and sprinkles his blood over us so that we might receive the mercy of God. He is the bread of life that if we eat, we shall never go hungry. He is the light of the world that illuminates our hearts and understanding into the things of God leading us closer to Him. He is the Great High Priest who forever intercedes to God on our behalf. And finally, He is the one who sends the Spirit to fill us with the life of God and anoint us for His service!

We have all this, because of who He is and what He has done!

Praise Jesus!
