Everything About You is Consecrated and Holy To God

Exodus 30 describes two mixtures for the Tabernacle ministry. An anointing oil which is made by the "finest spices" and an incense mixture made with "sweet" spices. The first is the anointing oil. It is made according to a specific recipe and prohibited to be made by anyone else or used on ordinary people.

God says:
Exodus 30:26–30 (ESV) With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, 27 and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, 28 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils and the basin and its stand. 29 You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. Whatever touches them will become holy. 30 You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.

Sometimes when you read the book of Exodus it can seem like such a bore. But the more you see it through the New Testament revelation of who we are in Christ, the more powerful and special these verses become.

The anointing oil was to be applied to everything in the Tabernacle and the priests who served there. The lesson was clear: Everything in their "house", including them was to be holy - set apart to God's purposes and God's work! The Israelites were to recognize the Tabernacle in that way. It was distinct, it was special. It was no ordinary place filled with no ordinary people.

Christians who have been washed in the blood of Jesus are the exact same way! We are not average or ordinary. We are made holy. We are set apart through the anointing of the Holy Spirit for God's purposes!

That is the meaning of "sanctified" in the New Testament.

Consider 1 Corinthians 1:2 in two translations - a literal translation:
1 Corinthians 1:2 (ESV) To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:

And a paraphrase:
1 Corinthians 1:2 (Message) I send this letter to you in God’s church at Corinth, believers cleaned up by Jesus and set apart for a God-filled life. I include in my greeting all who call out to Jesus, wherever they live. He’s their Master as well as ours!

What is more in the Tabernacle - every item and every son of the High Priest was anointed with this special oil for service. Christian - your entire life is set apart. Everything in your house is consecrated to God because of what God has done in you.

Perhaps you have unbelieving spouses or children. Remember how Paul refers to them in 1 Corinthians 7:
1 Corinthians 7:13–14 (ESV) If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.

You may not have confessing children or a confessing wife... but they are still set apart for God's purposes in your house. Plus, 1 Peter 3 tells us they can be won to Christ through your behavior!

The point is - you are NOT ordinary. You are HOLY. The Holy Spirit has come upon you because of the Work of Jesus for you. Do not take anything for granted. God is going to use it for His purposes IN your life and THROUGH your life as a Priest before Him.
