When Sin Seems to Win

How can you NOT love this verse?

Psalm 65:3 (ESV) When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.

Or in the New Living Translation:

Psalm 65:3 (NLT) Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.

I know I'm not the only one who sometimes feels like I'm fighting a losing battle with sin. It can feel heavy and defeating. You turn to Romans 7 and read the Apostle Paul to make sure he actually did say what he did say:

Romans 7:15 (ESV) For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
Romans 7:24 (ESV) Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

There will be times, Christian, when sin seems to win. But the good news of the Bible is ultimately sin doesn't win. If that weren't the case, there would be no hope for us. But because of Jesus who triumphed over our sins and death on the Cross, we have certain victory for today and tomorrow. Even when we don't feel like it.

The fact that you hate when sin seems to win is actually a very good sign. If you were okay with it, I'd take a good look at what you think you actually believe. 1 John 3:9 says "No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God."

You are in His family, you are chosen and precious to your Father. He has deposited His Spirit in you that envies intensely for you. You are BORN OF GOD... that it, you are now a supernatural reality living and breathing and walking through life with God and no longer alone. For a Christian to sin is to live antithetical to their new life and character in Christ.

Yes, we will sin and stumble and fall, but when we do, we will feel it and be humbled when God reveals it and then seek to be delivered from it.

And our hope is not in us!  Our hope is not in Christ's atoning work on the Cross which made God available to all who would call upon His name.

Psalm 65:4 (ESV) Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

When sin seems to win, run to the strong tower of His Name and be saved!
