Be More Normal, Not Less
Psalm 33:1 (NLT) Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord; it is fitting for the pure to praise him.
What I love about this line is how it makes clear - praising the Lord is "fitting." Yet somehow we let the world convince us otherwise. We tend to let the world impress upon us that we are weird and they are 'normal.'
So we are constantly tempted to temper our love for the Lord. We go to church and be somber, we fold hands and bow in silence. Never lifting our voice. But the world goes to their concerts and sporting events and shouts with crazed lunacy in hopes of a touchdown or a home run. Then some of those same people have the audacity to say Christians our out of touch and weird if they dare voice praise emotionally and vocally.
The Bible says it's good to shout, sing and lift our hands.
Christian, praise is NORMAL.
When you know the Lord, it's normal to react in praise and singing. The Psalmist underscores the reasons why praise is perfectly normal:
Psalm 33:4 (NLT) For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does.
Psalm 33:6 (NLT) The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.
Psalm 33:9 (NLT) For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.
Psalm 33:19 (NLT) He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.
Repeatedly the Psalmist mentions the power of God's voice to create. It created the world and the universe. It recreates the heart of a man. It births us to new life, it builds our faith! The Word of the Lord is the sure hope of those who are called by His Name!
When you look at the stars and galaxies that are expanding to this day - it is more than evident that God is worthy of our praise. When was the last time a sports star created a galaxy?
Perhaps it's time we stop letting the world define normal. The Bible is the sure Word of God. Every other idea or presentation is secondary and subject to its final authority.
Be more normal... and praise Him for who He is.
