We are all Serving God

Exodus 9:13–17 (ESV) Then the Lord said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, “Let my people go, that they may serve me. 14 For this time I will send all my plagues on you yourself, and on your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth. 15 For by now I could have put out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth. 16 But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth. 17 You are still exalting yourself against my people and will not let them go.

We are all serving God. It's just a matter of how so. This passage makes it abundantly clear there is no one in the story of God's deliverance of Israel that isn't part of the Sovereign plan of the Almighty.

  • God says to Moses, "Rise up early in the morning and present yourself" to the man who has not yet relented to the six plagues sent upon the land.
  • God says to Pharaoh "Let my people go that they may SERVE me."
  • God says to the nile, land, bugs, frogs, livestock, sun, and even their own children what he wants them to do.
  • God says to Pharaoh upon hearing his resistance, "For this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the Earth."

Here's the deal: Everything God says gets done.
  • Moses did face Pharaoh again, and two more times afterward.
  • Pharaoh did let the people go.
  • The plagues all did occur.
  • Pharaoh is remembered for his obstinance.
  • God's power is revealed.
  • God's name is proclaimed throughout the Earth as 3 billion people worship Christ today.

We are all serving God's purpose and plan. It's not a matter of whether you have "chosen" to serve God. He will use you regardless of your "choice." In fact, He doesn't even require your permission for that. Not once did Pharaoh yield to God's will and yet each "choice" of Pharaoh's revealed more of God's power and glory. The purpose of God prevailed regardless of Pharaoh's rebellion.

Christian, do not get upset by the person who rejects God. Do not get angered. Do not get troubled by a world that runs away from God with breakneck speed. Everyone is serving God's purpose. And no matter what people do, God will be glorified and His Name will be proclaimed.

Rather Christian, rejoice! Rejoice that you have been chosen by the only choice that matters. You have been called out of for sacred acts to the world who will see and know the God you serve is no joke but the only true and sovereign One!

1 Peter 2:9 (ESV) you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

When the disciples come back from having cast out demons they exclaim to Jesus all they did:
Luke 10:17 (ESV) The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

What is the Lord's response?
Luke 10:20 (ESV) Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

The point is simple: It is not what we chose that makes God known! It is that He has chosen us. That is the great privilege of faith that leads to humble obedience in action. To nothing else are we called but grateful obedience to His Sovereign plan.
