Measured

God sends John to measure the Temple during the height of the Tribulation in Revelation 11.

Revelation 11:1–2 (ESV) Then I was given a measuring rod like a staff, and I was told, “Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship there, 2 but do not measure the court outside the temple; leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months.

God measures.
I find that interesting.

He already knows the size. Why does He ask John to go through the trouble of measuring the temple int he midst of this great trouble for the church?

Well, its not for His sake. It's for ours.
When we are in the midst of pain and terror, God is not leaving us on our own even though it can feel like that. When trouble is right outside your door or coming close, you need to remember that God has marked you off from what the World will experience at His judgment.

Yes, we will have trouble. But we will not face judgment for our sins. We do not face the Wrath of God. And God makes a distinctively clear distinction between those who are His and those who are not.

Notice the tool John is told to measure with... a rod like a staff. One that a shepherd would use. Those words appear in a very familiar Psalm.

Psalm 23:4 (ESV) Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

So when your enemies are coming around you... God has said this far and no farther. The enemies you face are not in charge of what happens to you. God is. We have nothing to fear. Our Father is our Shepherd who has marked us off and kept us for Himself. Why face life in trepidation if You've got a Father like that in heaven?

Psalm 16:6 (NIV) The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
